STEPtember 2024

I'm raising funds to move CP research and disability innovation forward.

I'm participating in the STEPtember challenge to raise funds for cerebral palsy research and advancements in technology to benefit disabled people. I'm taking my fitness into my own hands and setting daily activity goals for the month of September. All month long, I'll be raising funds to support Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation (CPARF).

Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common lifelong physical disability in the world, affecting 18 million people of all ages, with 1 in 323 children diagnosed with CP every year. Even though it’s so common, CP doesn’t get the attention or funding it deserves. Your generosity will change that.

Any contribution you make will make a difference. Your gift can support:

  • Research into cutting-edge physical therapy to see what works best for certain children.
  • Painless technology that makes it possible for people with CP to move in ways — and accomplish things — that they never have before.
  • Research into new chronic pain treatments and solutions for people with CP.
  • Technology that makes it easier for people with CP to live their everyday lives right now.

Please help support this great cause by making a donation. It would mean so much to me — and to everyone with CP.

Thanks!

Our Third STEPTEMBER!

Friday 30th Aug
Hard to believe this will be our third STEPTEMBER!
We love any opportunity to celebrate our girl for all that she is…brave, loving, social, goofy, strong-willed, smart and curious.
And it’s a great time to reflect on how much progress Ellie has made over the past year and all of the incredible people that have been a part of that.
The bond that Ellie and her caregiver, Masha, have developed is undeniable. Masha pushes Ellie to work on skills between therapy sessions, but also makes plenty of time for giggles and snuggles. She has so easily become part of our family.
We know that Ellie’s “hurried walking” will soon turn into running with the help of her amazing physical therapist, Claudia.
We are working on chewing, swallowing and tongue lateralization to get Ellie closer to eating solid foods. Her feeding therapist, Jill, encourages us endlessly and reminds us that someday we will all be at brunch together talking about these days when it seemed impossible.
We continue to explore constraint therapy to encourage the use of her left hand. Her Benik hand splint helps to open up her left hand (when she doesn’t manage to take it off by herself). We’ve been lucky to work with many talented occupational therapists this year.
It has been fun to “hear” what she has to say through her Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device. “Let’s go to the pool” and “I want to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” are two favorites. She is often sad when her speech therapist, Meghan, leaves because she enjoys their dedicated time to communicate.
She is aging out of developmental therapy, but Barbara has helped her tremendously in developing all of her skills! Ellie will miss going on bear hunts with her.
We were also blessed with meeting Ms. Arrielle this year. Ellie is always ready for a dance party when she comes over.
And of course, a shout out to our friends and family that cheer on Ellie every day from near and far!
Ellie starts school soon and had her orientation this week. It was so enjoyable to watch her very independent self quickly walk with confidence to her classroom.
We are so proud of her!!
If you are able to donate, all of the funds go directly to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation to help fuel life changing research, enhance independence for individuals with CP, and open up new possibilities.
Thanks for your support!
Love,
Team Ellie

WHY STEPTEMBER IS IMPORTANT TO ME

IN THE US, A CHILD IS DIAGNOSED WITH CEREBRAL PALSY EVERY 45 MINUTES.

I'm participating this September to fundraise to support Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation in their mission to change what's possible for people with cerebral palsy.

This STEPtember, you're making a life-changing impact for people with CP.

Will you STEP up with me for cerebral palsy?
